This is a good example of a very desirable vintage Seiko. It is all original except the bracelet which is faithful to the original and presents very nicely. 

The dial shows some aging, blotchiness which I found hard to photograph, 

The main hands have been re-lumeded.

The case has been lightly re-finished (not by me) 

The glass is new, replaced as part of the overhaul.

The bracelet is not original, is signed "Seiko" and has endpieces that integrates into case as the originals do. Will fit up to approx. 20 cm wrist.

The 6138 movement is possibly the most complex Seiko mechanical. This example is in excellent condition, It has been professionally overhauled/serviced and is guaranteed.

Functionality:

This watch has just been professionally overhauled/serviced and all functions operate correctly, elaborated below:

Runs very well, keeps good time (see timergraph photo) and maintains a power reserve of approx. 42 hours from fully wound

Day and date function correctly and the quick-change mechanism functions, as it should, by pulling the crown to the first click and turning it clockwise to set the date and anti-clockwise to set the day.

The chronograph starts, stops and resets to zero with a firm action. Sometimes the minute recorder (the small hand at the bottom) does not always return precisely to zero but a second push of the reset button will send it to zero. 

A note about the timegrapher report  

After overhauling and calibration, this watch performs exceptionally well so I include a photo of the timegrapher reading. Please be aware that this reading was taken on the bench and results may vary in the real world because accuracy depends on several variable factors, mainly temperature, power on the mainspring and general conditions under which the watch is used.

Overhaul/Service explained

I am often asked about what an overhaul entails. So I have started adding a photo of the movement, disassembled ready to go through the cleaning machine. All old dried-up lubricants and anything else that shouldn't be there is cleaned away. Then, it is reassembled, lubricated, adjustments made and regulated. Seals are also replaced as needed.

About vintage mechanical watches:

A vintage mechanical watch will not perform like a modern quartz (electronic) watch. It is not ideal as a daily wearer. It should be treated for what it is, something old, classical and special.  Treat it as you would a vintage car - not ideal to use as a “daily driver”. Keep it in the condition at which you bought it and it will hold or, indeed, increase its value. Use it every day and it will go backwards.
