Open the jump ring sideways using two suitable jewellery pliers. Twist one side gently forwards and the other backwards rather than pulling the ring apart.
Attach the required jewellery components, then carefully twist the ring back until the two ends meet neatly.
Smaller jump rings are useful for fine chains and delicate connections, while larger sizes provide more room for clasps, charms and larger jewellery components.
The wire thickness increases with the outside diameter, so please consider both measurements when choosing the correct size rather than selecting by diameter alone.
