Vintage Moore & Wright No 405 Surface Gauge - 1942 - Military Issue - Crows Foot
A lovely WW2 vintage, Sheffield made Moore & Wright Scribing Block, dated 1942 and marked with a military crow's foot emblem.
Condition is decent for something produced over 80 years ago - but then these are quality items, properly made. Obviously due to its age it has marks and stains, plus a little pitting here and there. Hopefully you can see this clearly in the photos, so you know what to expect. None of this in my opinion will affect its use.
It looks to me like it has been used as a holder for a DTI or similar, rather than for scribing, as the "scriber" is actually a plain steel 1/4" diameter rod. The adjuster that holds this to the main pillar is obviously sized to hold a 1/4" rod rather than a much thinner scriber - so my assumption is that this was an option originally. So, if you are looking for a super adjustable clock holder - or similar - this could be ideal.
This came from a retired toolmakers collection, and is a duplicate for me - hence time for it to go to someone who will cherish and make good use of it.
Please feel free to ask any questions, and I'll be very happy to help.
