What is Shingon ?

Shingon Buddhism is one of the major schools of Japanese Esoteric Buddhism, founded in the 9th century by the monk Kukai, also known as Kobo Daishi. It is characterized by the pursuit of enlightenment through mantras, meditation, and ritual practices.

The Juzu (prayer beads) used in Shingon Buddhism features 108 main beads arranged in a double-ring structure. It consists of a single long strand folded in half, a style known as Furiwake Juzu, which reflects the formal structure traditionally used in Shingon rituals.
