Gustav Fr. Von Der Loo, born in Antwerp/Belgium in 1911, rests in the cemetery of Salettes in Drôme since 1996.
Student of the painter Marten von Der Loo, his father and his uncle, the sculptor Floris de Cujper.
At the same time, musical studies: winner of the Royal Music Conservatory of Brussels, he was also a musician (soloist alist) of international quality.
This undoubtedly explains his art of transparencies, harmonies of shapes and color. Suspended in a poetic space of the forms slide on each other, releasing openings for the eye and the mind.
In other canvases, monumental, c. Loo goes beyond this fluidity to fix forms that have the value of sculptural emblems. There he combines the elementary force by the robustness of the volume, and the delicacy by the bath in which these compositions rest.
All his canvases appear as the different aspects of the same world. This world is that of native light, around an object, of a form. He is the painter of the molecular abyss, where Spirit and matter are only one, because they are united in force.
Very rightly a Belgian art critic has written that it is "thanks to the sensitized light that this painting enters the field of the Fantastic Flemish".
V. Loo did not give titles to these tables in order to avoid any connection with specific images.
The signature c. Loo XI indicates that c. Der Loo is the eleventh painter of his family.
