What is Jodo Sect?

Jodo-shu, or the Jodo Sect, is one of the widely practiced schools of Buddhism in Japan. It was founded in the 12th century by Honen, who taught that anyone can be reborn in the Pure Land by reciting the Nembutsu — the phrase "Namu Amida Butsu."
This faith-based teaching gained popularity among the common people and spread throughout Japan.
