Synopsis :

Based on the seinen manga by Kusunoki Michiharu, serialized in Young Magazine, this story takes inspiration from real-life street racing on Tokyo's Shuto Expressway—particularly a stretch known as the "Wangan," which translates to "bay side." This road is the longest and straightest highway in Japan, making it a hotspot for high-speed racing. However, its heavy traffic and abundance of large trucks make it extremely dangerous. Accidents and blown engines are common, especially given the extreme power output of many of the tuned vehicles involved.

The story follows Akio Asakura, a third-year high school student who drives a Nissan Fairlady Z (Z31). One day, he is challenged to a race by Tatsuya Shima, a doctor behind the wheel of a black Porsche 964 Turbo, infamously nicknamed the "BlackBird." With a friend riding shotgun and two girls in the back seat, Akio makes a desperate attempt to win—but is soundly defeated.

Driven to become faster, Akio visits a junkyard in search of parts for his car. There, he stumbles upon a seemingly untouched midnight blue Fairlady Z (S30) that stands out among the wrecks. Despite its immaculate appearance, the car is destined for scrap. Intrigued, Akio buys it—and quickly discovers why it's earned a reputation. Under the hood lies a heavily modified L28 engine, bored and stroked to 3.1 liters and equipped with twin turbochargers, producing a staggering 620 horsepower. However, the car has a dark history: every previous owner has suffered a serious accident, starting with the death of its original driver.

The manga chronicles Akio’s encounters and evolution as a street racer, centering around his enduring rivalry with the BlackBird and the shadow of fate that seems to follow his cursed machine.
