This cover commemorates the launch of Mercury Atlas 7 from Cape Canaveral, FL on 05/24/1962. Astronaut M. Scott Carpenter rode a space capsule " Aurora 7" atop an Atlas rocket and was launched into earth orbit where he orbited 3 times before splashing down into the Atlantic 240 miles beyond the target area. He was recovered by a helicopter from the prime recovery ship USS Intrepid. This cacheted cover by Sekilsky  received a 05/24/1962 machine cancellation from Cape Canaveral, FL.
