This vintage Mid-Century Modern oval enameled cast iron Dutch oven roasting pan with a 7.5 QT capacity is perfect for baking sourdough bread loafs.

WHY IS THIS DUTCH OVEN PERFECT FOR BAKING SOURDOUGH?
1) THE LONG OVAL SHAPE ALLOWS FOR LONGER LOAFS.
2) THE FLAT LID ALLOWS YOU TO PLACE THE PAN IN THE OVEN HIGHER UP WITHOUT A TOP LID HANDLE ON TOP THAT HITS THE TOP OF THE INSIDE OF YOUR OVEN. WHEN YOU HAVE THE POT IN A HIGHER LOCATION IN YOUR OVEN YOU GET LESS BURNING ON THE BOTTOM SIDE OF YOUR LOAF.
3) THIS DUTCH OVEN IS VERY HEAVY, 19 POUNDS SO IT HOLDS HEAT WELL GIVING YOU EXCELLENT SPRING TO YOUR BREAD. MOST OF THE DUTCH OVENS SOLD TODAY FOR SOURDOUGH BREAD MAKING ARE NOT VERY HEAVY.
4) THE 7.5 QUART SIZE IS MUCH LARGER THAN MOST BREAD DUTCH OVENS BEING SOLD TODAY.
5) THE LID IS HEAVY AND IT PROVIDES A VERY GOOD SEAL LOCKING IN STEAM ALSO GIVING YOUR BREAD TIME TO EXPAND PROPERLY BEFORE THE CRUST GETS HARD.
6) THE ENAMEL COATING OVER THE CAST IRON MAKES FOR EASY CLEANING.

A few things to consider; the pan is heavy so if you don't have a lot of hand and arm strength it may be difficult to work with. The lid is a little tricky to take off and place back on when it is hot. You have to have good potholders and be able to grasp the lid carefully with them as to not get a burnt. Due to the weight the shipping is going to be higher than if you order a smaller dutch oven.

The mouth opening is about 14" x 10.5" and about 5" deep not measuring the lid. It is 17" long measuring the handles. The bottom of the pan reads 7.5 quarts and 25x36 CM. There are minor chips in the enamel but it will not affect the way it cooks.  I have taken a photo of a bread proofing basket in the bottom of the pan to help show the size. The basket is 8" x 5.5" x  3" deep. With the lid on the pan is about 6.5" tall. I have included some photos of this pan in action. The loaf I baked is from the proofing basket size above. This pan will hold longer loafs than the example of the bread I baked. One photo shows the bread after it has been cooked for 20 minutes at 430 degrees. Then I take the lid off and bake for another 15 to 20 minutes to get the crust to the color that I like.

Of course this dutch oven is also perfect for a large chicken, beef or pork roast. It is long enough to fit a good size leg of lamb with the bone in as well.
