Antique/Victorian Sterling Silver Adie&Lovekin Button Hooks/Shoehorn Boxed Set. Excellent condition, includung the velvet and satin lined, hinged box. Three piece set includes a shoehorn, a standard button hook, and a small button hook with a loupe at the top so it could be attached to a chaterlaine.
Each piece is marked with an aspect of silversmith's marks. The larger button hook is identified by English hallmark for sterling silver, city of Birmingham and date mark F. The small button hook has the initials of the maker ALLr, and the shoe horn is impressed with ENGLISH MAKE. Using online information, this silversmith's hallmark style was used 1892 to 1901.
The functional part of the shoe horn has a very, very slight response to a magnet; handle of shoe horn and buttonhooks do not react at all to a magnet.
This is a beautiful vanity set, hard to find in this condition in the original box. Box is approximately 8" × 3" × 1".
Carefully packed and insured; signature confirmation required at delivery.
