This is a fine World War I Model 1916 Steel Trench Helmet with a 1917 suspension system that remains in excellent condition. The shell is with regulation feldgrau painted finish and without dents or damage. The interior is complete with a full 3-pad brown leather liner. None of the pads are damaged and all are complete with the horsehair pads tied into the pockets on the reverse side. The leather remains strong, supple, and without cracking at the helmet band. The dome string is not present. The liner retaining rivets are factory tight and have never been out of helmet. The interior of the left side skirt is marked ‘B.F. 64’, indicating a 64cm size and manufacture by F.C. Bellinger, Fulda. This is a very fine example that remains in excellent field used condition. 9344
