2020 William Wordsworth 250th Anniversary £5 Coin Royal Mint Pack Sealed
The 2020 William Wordsworth Brilliant Uncirculated £5 Coin celebrates the 250th anniversary of the famed British poet’s birth. Designed and developed in partnership with The Wordsworth Trust, the £5 coin is the first commemoration of William Wordsworth on a piece of UK coinage.
250th Anniversary Since the Birth of William Wordsworth Born in April 1770, William Wordsworth would later go on to forge a reputation as one of the greatest wielders of the English language, synonymous with the Romantic literary works of the period. Growing up in the Lake District would prove to have a profound influence on the authors creations, with Wordsworth being buried a short distance from his childhood home upon his death in 1850.
The coins designer David Lawrence is no stranger to The Royal Mint, with his works also featuring on the 2018 and 2019 Britannia coins, whilst also contributing to the aesthetics of the First World War commemorative coin series.
Obverse The obverse design shows the Jody Clark fifth coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
Reverse Designed by David Lawrence, the reverse of the William Wordsworth £5 coin showcases an excerpt from the famed poet’s literary works. It features a line from “Tintern Abbey” set against the landscape noted to inspire the writer, England’s highest peak, Scafell Pike in the Lake District.
