MINERAL DESCRIPTION

Jasper, a form of chalcedony, is an opaque, impure variety of silica, usually red, yellow, brown or green in color; and rarely blue. It can be highly polished and is used for vases, seals, and in jewelry. Jasper has been used as gemstones and other ornamental objects for thousands of years.

In the fourth century, the wearing of green jasper was said to bring rain and to cure snake bites.
