This is an original cabinet card photo of a young male cyclist taken in a Buffalo NY studio. He wears a racing suit embroidered C.C.C. on the chest with an indistinct logo below. He wears a racing cap with a name beginning with "C". The studio, Cornwell (Thomas J.) located at 297 Jefferson is in an 1893 directory. The 1899 directory has the studio at 295 & 297 Jefferson. The bike is a period "Safety" design with pneumatic tires, light weight without fenders etc. for racing. The last two photos show similar bikes, not included. In a modern hand the name Charles Malzen is written reverse. Buffalo directories have various Malzers in the late 1800s. A Charles A. Malzer was born in 1909, possibly the son of the man pictured.
