This Beck designed R/S ship printed cachet cover commemorates the Splashdown and Recovery of Unmanned GT-2 . The flight was launched from Cape canaveral, Fl on 01/19/1965. GT-2 was a 20 minute sub-orbital flight to test the Gemini systems. The flight was a prelude to the upcoming manned flights. The capsule was recovered in the Atlantic Ocean by helicopters from the USS Lake Champlain ( CVS-39). The cover was hand cancelled on board the Prime Recovery Ship, USS Lake Champlain on the day of the Recovery.
