Listed for sale is a Lenovo 530-8i that has been converted to a Broadcom LSI 9400-8i HBA IT mode SAS controller. It is flashed to Avago / LSI 9400-8i IT (Initiator Target) mode firmware version P24 (specifically 24.00.00.00). I also flashed the LSI/Avago MPTSAS3 BIOS ROM version 09.47.00.00 and UEFI 24.00.00.00 so that it is easier to access the controller's ROM without booting an OS.
- LSI IT mode firmware version P24 (24.00.00.00)
- MPTSAS3 BIOS ROM flashed version 09.47.00.00
- MPTSAS3 UEFI ROM flashed version 24.00.00.00
- Original SAS address preserved in flash
- Original Board Tracer Number preserved in flash
- Original Board Assembly preserved in flash
- full profile bracket only included
- PCIe 3.0 x8
These are based on the LSI SAS3408 SAS controller chipset and support 12Gbps SAS-3 storage devices as well as NVMe U.2 drives with the appropriate cable. It uses a PCI-E 3.0 connection with x8 lanes. The controller has 2 SFF-8643 connectors, each carrying 4x 12Gbps SAS lanes. You will need a compatible cable to connect these to your SAS or SATA drives. This is flashed with the Tri-Mode firmware, so it can support NVMe U.2 drives. However, this only works if you use the correct cable, which is available in my store. Generic cables will not work. Inquire if interested.
These cards are fully tested in my Supermicro server running ZFS on Linux (ZoL), but this setup is also ideal for other ZFS setups, TrueNAS, unRAID, Proxmox VE, etc. I have fully tested them using all 8 SAS lanes. Not exactly the HBA / IT mode adapter you were looking for? Check out the HBA section at my ebay store here.
