Listed for sale is a Broadcom LSI 9305-16E HBA SAS controller card. It is fully updated to Avago / LSI 9305-16E IT (Initiator Target) mode firmware version P16 (specifically 16.00.12.00). This card has NO BIOS ROM, and NO UEFI to speed up boot time during POST. However, this also means you CANNOT BOOT from this card and you will not see any initialization during POST. The card will only be visible after the OS driver has loaded and initialized the card.
- LSI IT mode firmware version P16 (16.00.12.00)
- No LSI BIOS ROM or no UEFI ROM
- Original SAS address preserved in flash
- Original Board Tracer Number preserved in flash
- Original Board Assembly preserved in flash
- ONLY FULL profile bracket included
- PCIe 3.0 x8
- Requires SFF-8644 cables which are not included.
These are based on the LSI SAS3216 SAS controller chipset and support 12Gbps SAS-3 storage devices. It uses a PCI-E 3.0 connection with x8 lanes. The controller has 4 EXTERNAL SFF-8644 connectors, each carrying 4x 12Gbps SAS lanes.
CAUTION#1: Please note this card is a high performance card and runs hot. You must install it with plenty of airflow over its heatsink. Improper cooling can cause failure and poor reliability. These cards are fully tested in my Supermicro server running ZFS on Linux (ZoL), but this setup is also ideal for other ZFS setups, FreeNAS, unRAID, Proxmox VE, etc. I have fully tested them using all 16 SAS lanes.
