Dornier Do 217 E

The Dornier Do 217 E was a German medium bomber designed in the late 1930s and deployed by 1941. It measured 65 feet 6 inches in wingspan, 58 feet 6 inches in length, and was powered by two BMW 801 radial engines, each producing approximately 1,600 horsepower. This aircraft could reach a top speed of 320 mph, with a range of around 1,240 miles and a ceiling of 29,200 feet. It typically had a crew of four and carried defensive armaments, including multiple 7.92 mm MG 15 machine guns, and could deliver up to 4,000 pounds of bombs.

The Do 217 E saw action on numerous fronts during World War II. It was used in the Battle of Britain, as well as in strategic bombing raids across Western Europe and maritime operations in the Mediterranean. Its versatility allowed it to undertake missions ranging from traditional bombing to night raids and anti-ship warfare.
