SETThis set of 12 lithographs by Honore Daumier depicts the human comedy of 19th-century Paris, featuring a variety of French citizens in amusing situations. The prints are signed by Stephen Longstreet, who wrote the text, and are licensed reprints on semi-thick, softly cream-colored stock.
The detailed period lithographs are unframed and measure 13.3 inches in height and 10.65 inches in width. They are a wonderful addition to any art collection and portray the culture of Paris in the 19th century. The production technique is quality prints and the item is perfect for art enthusiasts and collectors.
Per Stephen Longstreet, who wrote the commentary, his prints in the book were reproduced from original lithographs in his collection, and printed "lithograph style" by Lynton Kistler, Los Angeles. He self-published and owned the copyright, and is to be commended for sharing his collection with the public, even if it was a limited but unnumbered portfolio. Condition of the outer cover, printed on light grey, semi-thick, matte-finished stock is strong VG+ - clean and fully intact with modest toning at edges and original owner's antique-looking bookplate neatly affixed to upper corner of outer cover; internal portfolio and 12 full-size prints are on high quality, very softly cream-colored, matte-finished stock which looks great at age 57. It's a rare collectible for the right buyer, And the prints would frame up beautifully if that's the buyer's choice.
The only other signed set of 12 on eBay, published by Stephen Longstreet in 1967 and bearing his identical signature on the front page of the inner portfolio, is the Daumier set DOCTORS - PATIENTS.. In "used" condition with 6 accompanying photos, it looks as nice as mine and is listed at $120.00 + $7.14 shipping. My set includes one amusing doctor/female patient image, and a wider array of Parisian citizens and situations because it's not specific to a single profession.
My Buy-It-Now price of $29.00 is a steal and includes shipping with cardboard backing and bubble-wrapped in a cardboard box via Ground Advantage, which takes up to 5 days with insurance and tracking.
