I love comics, art, and I would save money to travel to conventions, meet my favorite artists, and commission pieces from them. Over time, I noticed some artists showing signs of burnout. While most maintained a positive attitude, asking for another Batman or Spider-Man sketch sometimes elicited groans, and the final pieces might not meet my expectations. I settled on a few specific requests that allowed artists some creative freedom: Batman crumbling under the weight of the Green Lantern power ring, Iron Man contemplating his helmet like Hamlet with Yorick's skull, or a character from "Battle of the Planets," my first childhood anime with its iconic 70s costumes and helmets shaped like beaks.
The very first “Anime” seen by American audiences… "Battle of the Planets" was the first Japanese animated series to be widely broadcast in the United States. It was an edited version of the original "Gatchaman" series, which aired in the late 1970s. While "Gatchaman" was created earlier, it was "Battle of the Planets" that introduced the series to American audiences.🔥
