You may be wondering how the blue lace layers formed, and this was an amazing process: Agates normally form inside bubbles or cavities of igneous (volcanic) basalt, and over time, they fill with layers of water rich in silica. The water slowly evaporates, forming a layer of silica gelatin, and then a new layer forms. This is a slow process, and each layer contains different impurities, thus forming different colored bands. Fantastic, right?
