This is a set of four Model 54/404 Stackable Hallway Armchairs, designed by Aino and Alvar Aalto in Finland in 1932. This design was a padded variant of hallway chair 403, initially designed for use in the Paimio Sanitorium. This set dates to ca. 1945. They feature frames of solid birch, and have padded upholstered seats and backs. The upholstery is done in a light grey-green fabric.
Each chair measures 26 inches deep, 21.25 inches wide, and 30.25 inches high. They have a seat height of 19 inches. We have intentionally left these pieces in their original condition to showcase their history. Upon request, we can have the frames refinished and the upholstery redone. At present, the frames show myriad scrapes and scuffs, and the lacquer finish has darkened. The upholstery has some pulls and stains. Overall, these chairs are in good condition. Please see photos.
The buyer may pick up the furniture, have it shipped by our shipping partners (buyer will pay for full shipping cost, though will not have to arrange it), or discuss potential delivery within reason following the end of the auction. The listed shipping cost is an estimate, though we can likely stay below that number for most areas of the country. If you win the item, we can discuss shipping options, prices, etc. and we will make sure that it is as inexpensive for you as possible. We work with a shipper locally who takes great care in their work and has been complemented often on their packing and shipping quality.
