What is Jodo Shin Sect?
Jodo Shin Sect is a school of Buddhism founded by Shinran during the Kamakura period (1185–1333), and it is one of the most widely practiced traditions in Japan.
It teaches that anyone can be saved through sincere faith in the compassion of Amida Buddha by reciting his name, “Namu Amida Butsu.”
Juzu used in the Jodo Shin Sect typically differ by gender: men use a single-ring style held in one hand, while women often use a double-ring type.
The tassels also vary, with cord-style tassels for men and head- or cut-style tassels for women.
