a true rarity—CONAN #2, signed/inscribed by BARRY SMITH!

this is impossible to find—an early/signed *Barry Smith Conan* is a "grail" for conan fans!

i acquired this from a big conan collector who says he got this personally signed & inscribed around 1974 or 1975 at an early, nyc, comic convention.  back then, barry smith didn't use "windsor" (as in 'barry windsor smith') as part of his name, and this being an early signature, it's signed without the 'windsor.'  the collector i acquired this from is named mark, and it's inscribed to mark.  back in the early days of fandom, most artists had an aversion to signing on comic covers, preferring to "preserve the art," and usually signed on page 1, as is the case here.  btw, at the time this was signed over to the collector, marvel's conan had only been around for 3 or 4 years!

barry smith did *not* sign a lot of books, even less so as the years went by (he was a bit of a recluse), so his signature is HTF and rarely offered, let alone on a key, vintage conan like this! right now there are almost no signed barry smith conans (or otherwise) recently sold or offered on ebay! btw, his signature got sloppier over time, and became rushed and almost illegible; this one is an early, very clear signature!

i would grade this at about VF-.  a couple bits of wear here or there on the perimeter.  super bright and colorful!

very nice interior, lighter off-white pgs.

but this isn't so much about the condition of the comic (which is nice), but the early barry smith signature!
