A rare Ministry of Defence card table or games table of superb understated design. The tabletop rotates to reveal a storage space which the tabletop folds over in order to double the size of the tabletop with a green baize while revealing a lovely playing surface. I believe the wood to be teak but I’m not 100% sure.

Simultaneously utilitarian and beautiful. Marked on base GR VI, Liss Bro’s. Royal cypher of King George VI.

Liss Bros Limited was Founded 25 May 1945, they were located in Croydon, CR0 1SG, they went out of business the 23rd March 1981. The 50 is likely to be the year of manufacture.

Supposedly, all army officers were issued a card table in married quarters. It was expected that they would play bridge.

In good order with just some age related wear commensurate with use. A few marks and some peeling to the wood has been photographed, but on the whole this is an excellent table in used condition. Unknown whether it is missing a nut of some sorts when looking at it underneath. A real piece of history which deserves to be restored and passed down to the next generation.
