The Croatian Defense Forces (abbreviated HOS, sometimes called the Croatian Armed Forces or the Croatian Defense Alliance) were among the first organized military paramilitaries operating in the Homeland War in Croatia, and in Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with the Croatian Defense Council (HVO ) and Territorial Defense of BiH (TO BiH). In Croatia, HOS was later integrated into the Croatian Army in early 1992 when it was restructuring the military forces within the Republic of Croatia. The HOS in BiH had formally made part of the Army of BiH for some time, but fell apart and split after the killing of the Commander of HOS Hercegovina Major General Blaž Kraljević. The idea of ​​the HOS was to realize the borders of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH) from the Second World War. The composition of the HOS units was made up of Croats from the homeland and BiH as well as those from emigration. Some foreign nationals, including professional soldiers, who trained HOS members, came in. In addition, members of the HOS were also trained in Slovenia by members of the Slovene Territorial Defense, according to the HSP leadership and the Ministry of Defense of Slovenia.
