VIKING BRITAIN MAP

My map of Viking Britain & Ireland depicts the British Isles between 789 and 1066 AD. The earliest Viking incursions were coastal raids, but the mid-9th century much of Scotland and Ireland was under Norse or Danish control, and the two Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of Wessex and Mercia were furiously battling to survive.

This well-researched map shows the major settlements of the Anglo-Saxon and Celtic kingdoms and those of the Norse and Danish kingdoms, which are distinguishable by the different calligraphic styles I used. Over 50 battle sites (known or probable) with dates are also shown, and a timeline chronicles the major events across three centuries of history. The inset map shows Jorvik – York, the Viking capital of the Danelaw – as it would have appeared around 900 AD.

This map is perfect for anyone interested in this fascinating era of medieval history, and it pairs brilliantly with my Anglo-Saxon and Roman Maps.
