Vintage Promotional
Theatre Window Card Poster
Up for auction is a vintage souvenir promotional advertising theatre window card poster, measuring approximately 14 by 21.75 inches in size. Window cards are typically printed on card stock and placed either outside the entrance or in the lobby of a theatre, to advertise a show. This single sheet window card is printed on thick card stock, and is for Arnold Wesker's "The Merchant", featuring Zero Mostel, John Clements, Sam Levene, Marian Seldes and Roberta Maxwell, and playing at the Imperial Theatre, in New York City, in 1977. This was to be Zero Mostel's triumphant return to Broadway, in what he believed was to be his greatest role ever, as Shylock. However, he fell ill following only one pre-Broadway performance at the Forrest Theatre, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 2nd, 1977, and subsequently died six days later. Consequently, the show never opened as planned at the Imperial Theatre. Instead, it opened two months later, at the Plymouth Theatre, in New York, with Joseph Leon taking over the role of Shylock.
At this time and over the next few months, I will be selling a number of vintage window cards, heralds, playbills, souvenir programs, as well as other movie and theatre memorabilia, and will combine shipping if at all possible. If this is something that you are interested in, please check out these other listings as well.
Terms: All sales final. Paypal only. I will ship USPS mail. The listed shipping and handling charges are for the continental United States only. All others must wait for a revised invoice with additional charges for air mail service.
Thank you for looking. If you have any questions or would like additional information or pictures, please e-mail me as I would be happy to provide additional details. Please note that all items being sold come from a smoke-free and pet-free home. I am not a professional dealer, and am simply downsizing after years of collecting. I try very hard to accurately list and describe the condition of each item that I sell, and can appreciate the frustration of receiving an item that is not as described. Being human, I will occasionally make a mistake, and may miss a flaw or imperfection that would leave one dissatisfied with their purchase. If this occurs, and you feel that the item you receive is not as described, please contact me immediately. My goal is that each individual who buys from me is happy with their purchase.
