Two new Meanwell 24V DC UPS or battery backup modules are available. The DUPS20 allows a maximum 20A output and the DUPS40 allows 40A output. The DUPS40 replaces the DR-UPS40 (also available BUT being "phased out") and the new modules operate using a MCU (Micro Control Unit) that provides important new features such as an Over Discharge Current limit that disconnects the battery when the maximum allowed current is exceed for more than 3 seconds. This also allows higher capacity batteries to be used (up to 135 Amp hour) for longer offline operation!
An external 24VDC power supply (the voltage is normally adjusted to 27.6VDC in order to fully charge the battery) must be provided. The choice of power supply enables greater flexibility in the system design with possible units of 120W* to 960W capable of being used. For the low cost DIN rail NDR range (75W to 480W) - click here. MEAN WELL Enterprises Co., is a Taiwan based company started in 1982 with strong ties worldwide (some well-known companies re-badge their products) and they provide excellent support and backup. Some "on-the-web" comments... 1. "I have hundreds of 600 Watt 24V Meanwells running in the field and probably another 100+ 350Watt 5V running in the field and they are the most reliable piece of equipment compared to everything else. I've -never- replaced one in over 11 years, but I have replaced a lot of cruddy circuit boards designed or assembled by the less technically inclined (companies).", 2. "But in the end I've learnt a lesson here and that is spend the extra cash and buy some quality power supplies like the meanwell brand or else you could be in for a very frustrating time but I don't have the budget for that this year so I'll have to deal with what I have (sad face)", 3. Need a decent power supply... I can recommend mean well supplies. They are low end industrial supplies but are good quality, much better than no-name chinese supplies you can get from ebay etc.. I use mean well in lots of equipment and have had very few failures in thousands of hours of run time.

@ in the video (click here), they make an important point that an EARTH STRAP is needed to the metal case of the UPS module. In fact the UPS module is the only Meanwell metal case DIN rail unit that doesn't have a FG (Frame Ground) terminal hence the need for you to provide one! Other important points for you to note are the need to externally parallel ALL terminals from the power supply outputs before connecting it to the UPS module (DC terminals) and the load (multiple terminals on the power supply are NOT there for "convenience"). Also a 5mm space between DIN rail units should be provided for ventilation and 15mm when both units are heat generating devices. Finally note the fuses in the links between each set of two 12V SLA batteries to protect the batteries from short-circuit. This video provides a good example of how a UPS is used in a PoE (Power Over Ethernet) system for CCTV cameras. NOTE also when the voltage of a 24V DIN rail power supply is increased to 27.6V the maximum continuous current must be reduced by 12.5%, also remember 2A is used to charge the battery!
