This is a custom-designed minimalist coffee table, featuring an impressive slab of fine Spanish Emperador Marble which is perched atop a welded and hand polished stainless-steel frame. It was designed in ca. 1965 by Davis Allen and Gordon Bunshaft on behalf of the architectural firm Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM). Bunshaft was a leading force in the architecture and design world. Davis Allen worked closely with and under Bunshaft to execute bespoke furniture like this for special SOM projects. This piece came from upstate New York along with two other notable SOM-Designed works.
This table measures 27.5 inches deep, 27.5 inches wide, and 15 inches high. The marble is truly breathtaking, though it does have some small nips at its corners, as photographed. There is also some light scratching on the top. Both the marble and the legs may be polished and masterfully repaired upon request. Overall, this table is in good vintage condition with small signs of use.
The buyer may pick up the furniture, have it shipped by our shipping partners (buyer will pay for full shipping cost, though will not have to arrange it), or discuss potential delivery within reason following the end of the auction. The listed shipping cost is an estimate, though we can likely stay below that number for most areas of the country. If you win the item, we can discuss shipping options, prices, etc. and we will make sure that it is as inexpensive for you as possible. We work with a shipper locally who takes great care in their work and has been complemented often on their packing and shipping quality.
