Designed in the industry-standard 2.5-inch form factor with a 44-pin PATA/IDE interface, our SSDs conform to identical mounting requirements as standard hard drives, ensuring an easy installation. Additionally, they weigh less than half (about 1.4 oz/40g) that of the average 2.5" PATA/IDE drive (about 3.4 oz/95g).

Compatibility
Our PATA/IDE SSDs are compatible with devices which support the 44-pin PATA/IDE interface. This includes older laptops, such as those produced from the late 1990s until about 2007, and some produced until 2010. The majority of laptops produced after 2008 utilize the SATA interface rather than the PATA/IDE interface.
Your device's documentation may list a maximum supported drive size. This limit is usually inaccurate, however, with much higher capacity drives supported with no adverse effects. This is especially true for laptop models made in 2004 or later.

Expected Speeds
The PATA interface is limited to a theoretical maximum read and write speed of 100 MB/s (megabytes per second). Typical HDDs (hard drive disks) in early- to mid-2000s laptops reach read and write speeds of about 25 MB/s. Our SSDs (solid state drives) typically reach read and write speeds of just under 90 MB/s in such systems -- close to the 100 MB/s limit.
Some factors can cause reduced performance:
- Some systems have logical block addressing (LBA) limitations which can reduce the amount of recognized disk space. In this case, the system may report a disk read error on boot.
- Running an operating system unsupported by hardware can lead to system hang/lag and reduce read and write speeds.
- Older motherboards (typically those made before 2000) can limit transfer rates below the stated benchmarks.
