The 1983 Liberty Bowl between ND and BC was played in Memphis, Tennessee on December 29th and saw the Irish hold on for a 19-18 victory over the Eagles and their future Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Doug Flutie. Even in the losing effort…Flutie was awarded the MVP Trophy for the game throwing for 287 yards with three TD passes. Other notable names to play in the game included: Allen Pinkett, Blair Kiel, Mark Bavaro and Mike Golic for the Irish and Troy Stradford, Brian Brennan, Gerard Phelan and Dave Pereira for the Eagles.
