Ethnic Art - Antiques

An authentic antique, probably from the 19th-century Southeast Asian figurine,  hand-carved from natural bone. The figure depicts a standing monk or spiritual devotee in traditional robe, hands held in a peaceful gesture. This type of carving is characteristic of rural Buddhist craftsmanship from Burma (Myanmar) or northern Laos, where such figures were often used for personal devotion, travel protection, or small household altars.

The surface bears a deep, warm brown patina that has developed naturally over time. This rich coloration is not painted but the result of oxidation, handling, and prolonged exposure to air and oils — an unmistakable sign of genuine age and use. The patina accentuates the carved details and adds visual depth.

The statue is very narrow at the bottom, better to glue it to the base in order to stand it up.

Approx. 90mm tall, 22g.
