“No, they didn’t have any money, the sea was dangerous and men were lost, but it was a satisfying life in a way people today do not understand. There was a joinery of lives all worked together, smooth in places, or lumpy, but joined. The work and the living you did was the same things, not separated out like today.”

The book has the most minor of shelf wear but the boards remain remarkably sharp and clean. The binding is square and internally there is no writing or other markings. A much nicer example than is typically seen. The dust jacket is sunned (aren’t they all?) and has a touch of rub, and some minor shelf wear but is otherwise handsome. A very presentable copy of a book which has become rather difficult to track down in collectable condition these last few years. The Shipping news would go on to be the Winner of the Pulitzer Prize as well as the National Book Award. Basis for the rather good and sadly forgotten adaptation of the same title from 2001 which starred Kevin Spacey, Julianne Moore, Judi Dench, and Cate Blanchett.
