An album of photos taken between 1886 to 1910 which follows a suburban Philadelphia family through the main line towns of Strafford, Devon, and Bryn Mawr. During their summers they retreated to various seaside towns including Spring Lake, New Jersey, Annapolis, Maryland, and Watch Hill, Rhode Island. Seen throughout the album are numerous snapshot photographs of women in fancy dresses and large fashionable hats, men outside their Philadelphia homes, and internal shots of home life. The vacation photos show numerous summer trips with boat trips, ocean views, and cabins. The album features fun posed photos like one of two people between a crossed pair of oars which reads, "our summer coat of arms," and another of three girls captioned, "3 peaches." A photo of a man pulling a cart of people is captioned "whoa boy." They spent time at the 1909 county fair in Red Bank, New Jersey which includes photos of livestock and a hot air balloon. There are a few photo processes represented here include a cyanotype of a house and some attempts at nighttime photography.
An interesting look at a well to do Philadelphia family enjoying their summers on the coast.
