Röyte Pomerantsen: Jewish Folk Humor, gathered and edited by Immanuel Olsvanger
Publisher: Schocken Books
Year: 1947
Includes an introduction in English and a pronunciation guide. The remainder of the book is in Romanized (transliterated) Yiddish.
Front endpaper is inscribed in Romanized Yiddish, as follows:
Tsu Daniël
und Dzoan, fun dein schwartzer landsman!
Albert
This book appears to have been an engagement or wedding gift to the seller’s parents. The “Albert” of the inscription was probably Albert Turner Bharucha-Reid (1927-1985), who introduced them in 1958 and was the best man at their wedding in 1960.
Condition: Very good (considering its age), in fair dust jacket. Boards show mild rubbing on lower edges and all four corners. Spine head and tail are slightly collapsed. Text block is clean, complete, and fairly tight, but is faintly discolored at edges (esp. pp. 113-142); outer edges have several small “dings.” DJ is sunned and soiled on spine, rubbed and soiled at front fold, discolored at top edge and rear fold, and has several stains and small tears; all four corners have a clipped appearance.
