Here is a fun vintage map measuring tool that looks as if it was never used. The piece is called an opisometer, and allows one to follow a curved line on a map and accurately determine the distance in miles or kilometers. The instrument is double sided, with a compass on the reverse. The instrument is just under 3" high and 1 3/8" wide and is signed 'Germany' on the label, though the directions sheet inside the case is marked 'West Germany'. The opisometer is packaged in a black leather case. All pieces are in very good vintage condition, with no flaws noted. It's a fun piece for anyone interested in orienteering or hiking, or for anyone who enjoys vintage instruments and maps. made in the 1960s for reading maps ie car journeys
