When plants are packed they will be subject to pruning and some leaves and/or branches may even be bruised or broken. Bear in mind that for both flowering plants and fruit trees pruning is GOOD for the plant so get it done.

Hydrangeas are native to Asia and the Americas, and were first cultivated in Japan. They were brought to Europe in 1736. 

Name

The name hydrangea comes from two Greek words that mean "water vessel" because the seed capsules are thought to be shaped like one. 

History in Japan

Hydrangeas have been cultivated in Japan for centuries and are mentioned in poetry from as early as 710 A.D. In ancient Japan, emperors would give hydrangeas to their handmaidens as a thank you. 

History in Victorian times

Victorians believed that hydrangeas were a symbol of boastfulness or vanity. 

Ancient Buddhists

Ancient Buddhists used the roots of hydrangeas as an antioxidant in tea to cure kidney issues.
