This is an amazing and rare collection of  of eight vintage 1950's gift certificates from the Los Angeles and Hollywood area of Southern California.  It is from a personal family estate.  These certificates most likely were issued by the local chamber of commerce so that local retailers of the era could participate and gain more customers using various discounts,  or they could possibly have been sponsored by the local Welcome Wagon for new residents who had just moved into the area.    The certificates do not indicate who the issuer was.  Whatever,  they are very cool!

One of the coolest elements of these certificates is that they use the old telephone exchange phone numbers of the 50's era such as Diamond, Dickens, Stanley, etc.  These exchanges were phased out in the 1960's, so that is a good way to date these items.  There is no specific date shown on  the certificates.  They are most likely from the mid to late 1950's. 

These gift certificates are like a time capsule of Los Angeles, Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley o the 1950's, showing various retail stores such as the Hollywood Laundry and Dry Cleaning Co. on Vine Street in Hollywood, Claires Dress Shop in Woodland Hills, and Anna Ward Fashions in Encino, CA.  Most likely all of these businesses are long gone.  (naturally, the certificates no longer have any value and are obsolete).

I am mainly selling them because I think they are cool vintage time capsule items, and also because I think they would look really cool framed on your wall, particularly because of the old phone exchanges shown on each certificate.  

Condition:  Pristine.  No rips, tears or stains.  These things look brand new!  They apparently had been in some type of coupon booklet.  

If you collect these types of certificates or are from that  area and would love to have a bit of the L.A. or Hollywood history in your home as a retro item, these are for you! Things like this usually don't survive past the first few weeks or months after they are issued, so it's amazing that these still look great more than 50 years later.  Wow!
