Title: Archaic Chinese Blue-Glazed Pottery Vase, Liao Dynasty, 12th Century.

Description: For your consideration is a extremely rare Chinese earthenware Pottery Vase, stylistic of the Liao period. The vase is beautifully contoured with a compressed ovoid shaped body rising to a slightly flared neck, flanked by a pair of archaic style elephant- heads resting on both shoulders, and tapering down to a comparatively tall footrim, where the glaze of various shades of light-blue tones drips down exposing the unglazed buff ware,

xxxxx: Barely visible at first glance, the exterior is delicately hand drawn, pricked, and incised on both sides in a religious motif of a Disciple seated in meditation.

xxxxx: The particular colors, style, and design in this ware is traditional of Liao pieces. The motif is brilliantly hand drawn and painted, covered overall in a vivid blue glaze suffused with iridescent areas. The piece is overall in pristine condition, with the exception of minor surface scratches.

xxxxx: Note: The photo with the Religious image was enhanced in "red" using Photo Shop, 'NOT ACTUALLY PAINTED ON THE VASE'.

Observation: Typical of hand-crafted pottery, there are a few normal potter blemishes, and kiln production blemishes, including warts, dimples, and pits on the interior and exterior walls. Overall it's an exceptionally attractive piece and a well-preserved specimen of Chinese Pottery Art.
