73 Badge with Red Edge – Los Alamos Nuclear Test

A large 2.25" pinback button with a red border and the number 73.

When on base in Los Alamos, the New Mexico town selected for the Manhattan Project, personnel wore round badges with combinations of letters and numbers. These refer to the identification numbers they were assigned upon arriving at Los Alamos. The eyewitnesses to the actual Manhattan Project nuclear test wore buttons with red edges and a number, rather than a letter-number combination.

This button is a reproduction of a cinematic interpretation of that eyewitness security badge, with the number of scientist Edward Teller.

Wear it on your lab coat – ideally with a pair of goggles and a lot of sunscreen. Always wear sunscreen.
