Red White and Blue Socks Part Second being the Second book of the Series by "Aunt Fanny's" Daughter, Leavitt & Allen, New York 1863
Sarah Leaming Barrow Holly was a writer born in 1842 and created books with her mother Fanny Barrow, as well as writing some of her own. She was Sarah Barrow when this was published, marrying an architect named Holly in 1865.
The story seems to be a light hearted juvenile fiction novel about the Dashahed Zoaves, really a group of boys playing soldiers during the civil war. The only illustration is the frontis, showing a bull chasing the soldiers titled "Bull Run"
No doubt there was quite an appetite for such literature during the Civil War.
Condition is good with a lovely embossed cloth covered board covers, with wear at spine and corners and some staining front and back. Gilt lettering on spine still clear. The main issue is an apparent exposure to moisture long ago that resulted in a pale brown stain in from the edges. There is no mildew or pages stuck together. Sewn binding is tight.
