Seuss, Dr. - The Cat in the Hat Comes Back - Beginner Books (Random House): New York, 1958 - First Edition / First Printing / First Issue Dust Jacket - “First Printing” stated on the copyright page as required in order to denote the first printing of the first edition. First issue dust jacket with correct cover, rear panel, and seven reviews to the rear flap.
“Oh-oh!” Sally said. “Don’t you talk to that cat. That cat is a bad one, That Cat in the Hat. He plays lots of bad tricks. Don’t you let him come near. You know what he did the last time he was here.”
The book has soiling, rubbing, a bookstore sticker (Hudsons) is affixed to the rear end page, and some wear to the edges. The glossy boards are still straight, the binding is square and firm, and internally there is a small address label on the front end page but other wise there is no writing. The dust jacket is soiled, marked, and edge worn with some shallow nicks and a very short tear to upper rear edge. All in all a rather presentable example of a notoriously fragile children’s book. This example has been signed and inscribed by Seuss on the lower rear of the front end page opposite of the title page: “Merry Christmas to Frederick! / —Dr. Seuss”. A well kept example of a rare book to see signed. This copy meets all known first edition issue points for both the jacket and books.
