Barcelona 92 The 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games were considered at the time to be the best in history. Barcelona hosted the Summer Games of the XXV Olympiad of the Modern Era, from July 25 to August 9, 1992 For the occasion, the Montjuic Stadium (Olympic Stadium) was completely remodeled and numerous sports halls were built, the most emblematic of them being the Palau Sant Jordi. Barcelona's aspiration to be an Olympic venue dates back to 1924, the first time it presented its candidacy for the Olympics. He also did it in 1,936 and 1,972, finally seeing his commitment realized in those of 1,992 The Barcelona Olympics broke organizational records: 10,000 athletes from 165 National Olympic Committees participated, an Olympic Village was built for 15,000 people (the athletes' lodging was free for the first time in Olympic history); 3.5 billion people watched the opening and closing ceremonies on television. For the first time, no country boycotted the Olympics. Mandela's South Africa was welcomed back onto the international scene and Germany competed as a unified country after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Even Afghanistan participated in the opening ceremony, despite not having any athletes prepared to compete in the games. The inauguration ceremony was spectacular and it is estimated that it was followed on television by 2,000 million people around the world.
