Gardner, Erle Stanley - The Case of the Howling Dog - William Morrow: New York, 1934 - First Edition / First Printing - Matching dates on the title and on the copyright pages with no mention of later printings present on the copyright page as required in order to denote the first printing of the first edition.

The book is lending library with some stamps, abrasions, and pasted in tid bits. It also has shelf wear with some rubbing and a the general wear of a community book. The text block is complete but is a soiled and thumbed. With that being said, the stamps and markings seem to be confined to the end pages. The dust jacket shows significant wear with sunning, rubbing, chipping, tears etc. The previous owner purchased a facsimile dust jacket which is underneath the real jacket. This was done as a way to visually fill in missing pieces— an unsophisticated and still pleasing solution for the areas of loss. The facsimile is in no way attached to the real jacket and can be removed at any time. While far from perfect this is a solid place holder or reading copy of what is a rather rare title to find in the first edition. TCOT Howling Dog was only the fourth Perry Mason mystery. Extremely uncommon in any kind of real jacket.
