Walker Evans is considered one of the most important American photographers in the history of fine-art photography. The Museum of Modern Art in New York City, in 1938, published American Photographs as a limited edition that accompanied the extraordinary exhibition of his work at that time. Historically it was a profound and comprehensive exhibition. It elevated the documentary style of Evans photographs (each image) to be viewed and appreciated as original works of art. This milestone book is valued as one of the most consequential photographic books ever published. The book (itself) is overall in very good condition, all the plates are in excellent viewing form. The dust jacket has aged and both the front and back of the dust jacket are stained a bit, also the back paper (along the spine) of the dust jacket is missing. There is some minor foxing on a few of the intro pages...but none on any of the plates. Considering the age of the book it is in very good shape...Please review carefully all the photos that are included here- as they give a very accurate portrayal of how the book looks.
