Specifications: A low-output turbo setup can be upgraded to a high-output semi-assembly. (The benefits of upgrading to high output include significant increases in horsepower and torque, as well as a dramatic improvement in acceleration.)
Installation Notes:
[Pre-lubrication of the bearing housing is mandatory before initial startup] Before tightening any oil line fittings, you must use a syringe (without a needle) to inject at least 30–50 ml of clean, fully synthetic engine oil directly into the oil inlet port of the center housing, while manually rotating the turbine wheel a few times. If the unit is started "dry" without this pre-fill, the new bearings will suffer permanent scoring from dry friction—or even seize and fail instantly—during the few seconds of delay it takes for the oil pump to deliver oil to the top of the V8 engine block.
[Mandatory replacement of the OEM oil strainer inside the center housing] A brand-new, high-quality small strainer is included in the box. During assembly, the technician must pry open the oil check valve at the top of the center housing, remove the old, original strainer (which is highly prone to clogging from sludge and carbon deposits), and install the new strainer provided. Reusing the old strainer to save time will cause the new turbocharger to fail immediately during the first test run due to oil starvation.
[Mandatory self-learning calibration for the electronic wastegate actuator after installation] After transferring the original electronic actuator motor to this sub-assembly and installing it on the vehicle, the mechanical displacement tolerances will have shifted slightly. Therefore, you must connect a high-end bi-directional diagnostic scanner (such as the Audi OEM ODIS system or a high-end Launch X431 unit) to perform the "Wastegate Adaptation" (basic setting/self-learning) procedure. This allows the vehicle's ECU to recalibrate the voltage readings for the wastegate's opening position; failure to do so will result in an immediate "Boost Control Range" error due to a mismatch in control voltages.
