The new Meanwell DRS Series all-in-one UPS or battery backup power supplies are now available. The DRS is DIN rail mounted with the DRS-240 providing 240 Watts of output and the DRS-480 providing 480 Watts. Four voltages are available... 12V (240W only), 24V, 36V and 48V. The new "intelligent" units operate using a MCU (Micro Control Unit) that provides important new features.

DRC-40 Series

*the current in brackets is the maximum available for diversion to charge the battery. On the DRS the charge current is adjustable 20% to 100% via pot. The charge voltage is adjustable via pot on the DRC and via the DIP switches on the DRS. The load is always given priority and the battery charge current will reduce when the load requires it. The load voltage will also vary with battery voltage. If a fixed regulated voltage (or other voltages) are required to the load, then use a suitable DC-DC converter.

Some "on-the-web" comments... 1. "I have hundreds of 600 Watt 24V Meanwells running in the field and probably another 100+ 350Watt 5V running in the field and they are the most reliable piece of equipment compared to everything else. I've -never- replaced one in over 11 years, but I have replaced a lot of cruddy circuit boards designed or assembled by the less technically inclined (companies).", 2. "But in the end I've learnt a lesson here and that is spend the extra cash and buy some quality power supplies like the meanwell brand or else you could be in for a very frustrating time but I don't have the budget for that this year so I'll have to deal with what I have (sad face)", 3. Need a decent power supply... I can recommend mean well supplies. They are low end industrial supplies but are good quality, much better than no-name chinese supplies you can get from ebay etc.. I use mean well in lots of equipment and have had very few failures in thousands of hours of run time.

@ in the video, click here, important points for you to note are the need to externally parallel ALL terminals from the power supply outputs before connecting it to the load (multiple terminals on the power supply are NOT there for "convenience"). Also a 5mm space between DIN rail units should be provided for ventilation and 15mm when both units are heat generating devices. Finally note a fuse or circuit breaker should be included to protect the batteries from short-circuit.
