About the Artist: Louis Jean Desprez (1743-1804) was a French painter, architect, stage designer, and engraver. He was appointed by King Gustav III of Sweden as head stage designer for the Royal Opera in Stockholm. Desprez was responsible for introducing the Neoclassical style to Scandinavia. His work can be viewed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
About Henry IV: Henry IV (1553-1610), known as the Good King Henry or Henry the Great, was King of Navarre from 1572 and King of France from 1589-1610. He was the first monarch of France from the House of Bourbon. At the end of the Wars of Religion, he left Protestantism and converted to Roman Catholicism in order to win Paris and reunify France.
