Description: An amazing and rare limited production Sculptural Ceramic Pottery Chinese Mandarin Goose by Macao Toyo of Japan, from the Arita-Cho town located in the western part of Saga prefecture. Famous as a pottery town with history of over 400 years.
xxxxx: The particular motif, colors, and design of this ware is traditional of old Chinese mandarin, beautifully hand drawn and hand painted with overglazed enamels in the Peony style color pattern.
xxxxx: In Chinese culture the symbolic connotations of geese depend somewhat on whether they appear in single, in pair, or in a flock, also whether they are wild or domestic. Geese have been thought to take one partner for life, male and female, thus the goose can symbolize 'Marital Bliss', and due to the seasonal migratory flights of geese, they are used poetically in connection with the change of seasons and the passage of time.
Observation: This item is "New" Old Stock. Typical of hand-crafted pottery, there are a few normal potter blemishes, and kiln production blemishes, including warts, dimples, and pits on the interior and exterior walls. Overall it's an exceptionally attractive piece and a well preserved specimen of Toyo Pottery Art.
